Gift for Haiti

After the terrible earthquake suffered by Haiti last week Meggie’s school is organising parcels for the children. Megan went to Tescos and bought some items to put in a box for a little girl including toothbrush, toothpaste, hair bands, pencils, colouring book, hairbrush etc. She also wrote a little note and drew a picture.

We also donated some money via the www.dec.org.uk website.

Ron in daylight

Ron survived the night pretty well with no loss of limbs or eyes. As soon as Meggie was up and dressed she went out to give Ron a big hug and kiss – she really likes him :)

I think Ron looks more like a snow teddy rather than a snow man though.

Ron the Snowman

It has been snowing since January 3rd on and off and pretty heavy at times so by this evening we had loads of snow in the garden. At about 8pm I decided to build Megan a proper snowman and managed to cajole Eliie into helping. So there was Ellie and I, outside in freezing weather with snow falling, building a snowman in the dark. Rolling the snowballs around the garden was a bit touch and go (trying to avoid any dog doo doo’s and yellow snow).

All the time we were building him, Meggie was watching out of her window getting very excited – bless her. We managed to get him 5ft tall and used a flower pot for his hat and bamboo canes for his arms (i know not great but it’s all we had), a carrot for his nose and stones for his eyes and mouth. We even added ears and feet.

Once finished, Meggie came outside with everyone else to inspect our work. Ellie named him Ron (don’t ask cause I don’t know why).

Emily’s 1st Birthday

Can’t believe it’s been a year already since Emily was born. Tomorrow is Emily’s actual birthday but today was her birthday party so we trotted round Gills for the do. Gill cooked up some pizza’s for the girls and for us BBQ ribs – YUM! As you can see from the photo, choclate cake was for pud and very nice it was too.

New Years Day

Happy new year!

Decided to try walking Poppy again but this time we would take her to the local park with Molly. This is only two minutes walk so we walked round with Poppy on the lead. This time she seemed a lot better.

Once at the park Megan played on the swings whilst Poppy ran around like a tazmanian devil on heat after Molly. We had to keep her on the extend able lead which meant she kept getting tangled up in the bramble bushes.

Poppy’s first walk

New years eve and it’s time for Poppies first walk.  We took her to Clowes wood (where we normally walk Molly) with Issy and Megan.  We thought it would be a good idea to put her on the extendable lead so she could have a bit of freedom – boy was that a mistake. Put the lead on her and she hated it. She tried everything possible to get off of including climbing up peoples legs. Eventually we got her to the walk and she ran around peoples legs nearly making Issy fall over a couple of times. Poppy seemed terrified of it and was constantly shivering. We went a little way before turning back and ended up carrying Poppy most of the way back.

Boxing Day

Today we had my family around for dinner. Ally spent most of the morning cooking a lovely roast lamb with a forest fruits pavlova for desert. I hoovered and did what I could to help (useless in the kitchen).

For once my Mum and Chris were on time – one minute early even! It was Colin and Cats turn to be late :) They had brought the usual ton of pressies even though we had just asked for money this year. I got the usual socks, gloves and scarf ( I’m gonna open a socks and scarf shop) whilst Ally got poppy cups, cooking book and a couple of other bits. The girls all got a bit of cash which is perfect for them as they can add it to the rest of their stash to spend in the sales.

The dinner was fantastic (as usual from Ally) and it pretty much all disappeared.

Christmas Day

Well it’s finally here, Happy Christmas!

Ally half awoke around 6am thinking Megan will wake up soon but then went back to sleep. It was nearly 7.30 before we woke up again and Megan still wasn’t awake! So we woke her up and she jumped into our bed with her stocking from Santa. Funnily enough Santa had also brought Ally a stocking full of goodies as well (even though he said he wouldn’t!)

After Meggie opened her stocking pressies we went downstairs to open her main ones from us. This year we bought her a Nintendo DSi with a Hannah Montana game, a telescope, a large Hello Kitty from build a bear  as her main pressies and some other bits. Since we got up late we would have to open our pressies after church.

Went to church ( our annual visit ) around 10 and met up with Gill, Nick, Jen and Beth after which we went back home to open a few more pressies. Santa had brought Ally some silly little pressies such as sweets, car phone charger and an ice scraper plus a nice little digital photo frame for her desk.

Off to dinner at Gill and Nicks this year. Nick insisted on cooking and it was nice but his timings were all wrong so everything was cold – never mind, hot gravey soon sorted that out :)

Issy and Ellie were dropped off at Gills around 4pm after which we went back home to relax and open their presents.

Nearly there

Megan has been so excited today, all she has done is run around the house shouting “it’s Christmas tomorrow”. I really wish it was as exciting for me as it obviously is for her.

It’s now Megan’s bedtime and for once she can’t wait. We have left out a mince pie and some milk for Santa and a carrot for the reindeer’s.

Issy and Joe are out at a party tonight and Ellie is round her Dads so Ally and I are going to do the last wrapping (we found some more) then we’re going to have a relaxing evening with a good film.

Christmas Eve

Well its now Christmas Eve and I think we are pretty much ready (thanks mainly to Ally). Food bought, Pressies bought and wrapped. I think we have been in Tesco’s at least twice daily every day this week so far and its hell. Yesterday Ally went once to do the big food shop and I went twice and every time the car park was stuffed. Why do people leave it to the last minute every year :)

No chance of a white Christmas this year as it’s now a whopping 5 degrees out there. All the snow has gone bar the last blob of the snowman Meggie built and its raining. It’s gonna be a typical grey, wet Christmas.

Poppy has gone to the vets for her second injection this morning which means we can take her up the woods for her first walk on New years day.
