A little bit about me

Hi, my name is Paul and I am a Dad of one Daughter, Step Dad of two Step Daughters, Husband of one Wife, Owner / Carer of three cats, one two dogs, several tropical fish and a load of apple snails.

Why i’m writing this blog

The main reason is that I wanted to keep a diary of our family life. So much happens in a year and whilst you can normally remember the bigger events that occurred, the smaller ones seem to get forgotten. So a diary would be something that I and the rest of my family could look back on and laugh (or cry).  Of course, being the gadget freak that I am, I couldn’t simply write a paper based diary, oh no, I needed an electronic one hence the blog which I can keep updated on my laptop and iPhone :)

Another reason for taking the blog approach is that I am keen on photography and take a lot of photos. A blog allows me to easily insert relevant photos, again this will be fun referring back to over the years.

Also within this blog I will write some articles on products I have used and my experiences with them, kind of like mini reviews really.

Work

I am a software engineer with skills in .net, C++, Java, JSP, HTML and PHP. I work for a large multi national company who provide software for corporate companies in several industry sectors.

Hobbies and interests

I am a keen carp fisherman and used to go regularly with my brother but the last couple of years I really haven’t been able to find the time for it. In fact this year I went once and caught nothing.

I also love photography. I have a Nikon DSLR with several lenses as my main camera and have recently bought a Panasonic compact to carry around with me. Whilst I have been keen on photography for a number of years I would say that I only know the basics really, this is why I am looking to sign up for a photography course to enable me to take better pictures and make the most out of the gear I have.

I’m also into gadgets in a pretty big way. For example, I cant just read a book, I have to read a book on an electronic book reader (eReader), I can’t just give up smoking like everyone else, nope, I use an electronic cigarette, Windows 7 comes out – its on my laptop same day, iPhone – yep I qued for one – get the idea?
